The Haydon HAY-ACCESS12/24V8/4A-8W is a switchable 12V/24V DC power supply designed for professional access-control installations. It delivers up to 8A in 12V mode or 4A in 24V mode and provides eight fused outputs for distributing power across compatible access-control equipment.

Its large metal enclosure can accommodate up to six Paxton or ACT control boards and supports battery backup using either one 18Ah battery or two 7Ah batteries. Control boards and backup batteries are not included.

  • Selectable 12V DC or 24V DC operation
  • Maximum output of 8A in 12V mode
  • Maximum output of 4A in 24V mode
  • Eight-output fire-interface fuse board
  • Space for up to six Paxton or ACT control boards
  • Supports one 18Ah or two 7Ah backup batteries
  • N/C, N/O, positive or negative trigger options
  • Trigger-input range from 5V to 24V DC
  • Front and rear enclosure tamper protection
  • Mains and fault status indicators
  • Over-current and overload protection
  • Over-charge and over-discharge protection
  • Universal 100–240V AC mains input
  • Metal mounting standoffs included
  • Three-year manufacturer warranty

Switchable 12V or 24V Output

The power module can be configured for either 12V or 24V access-control equipment.

In 12V mode, it provides an output range of 13.2–14.0V DC, with a nominal output of 13.8V DC and a maximum current of 8A. In 24V mode, it provides 27.0–28.0V DC, with a nominal output of 27.6V DC and a maximum current of 4A.

The output fuse supplied for 12V operation must be changed from the default 8A fuse to the supplied 4A fuse when the unit is configured for 24V operation. Installation and voltage selection should be completed by a suitably qualified access-control or electrical engineer.

Eight Fused Power Outputs

The PSU includes an eight-way fire-interface fuse board for distributing power to connected access-control equipment.

Each output can be configured through its associated jumper as either continuously powered or controlled through the fire-interface relay. This provides installers with greater flexibility when configuring door controllers, locking equipment and other compatible devices.

The combined load across the outputs must remain within the PSU’s total output limit of 8A at 12V or 4A at 24V.

Flexible Fire-Interface Triggering

The fire-interface fuse board can be triggered using:

  • Normally closed contact
  • Normally open contact
  • Positive voltage trigger
  • Negative voltage trigger

Positive and negative trigger inputs accept a control voltage between 5V and 24V DC. The trigger mode and output behaviour must be correctly configured using the appropriate board jumpers.

Connection to a fire-alarm system must be designed, installed and tested by qualified professionals. The PSU should not be presented as a complete fire-alarm or emergency-release system by itself.

Space for Six Access-Control Boards

The enclosure is designed to accommodate up to six Paxton or ACT access-control boards. Metal and self-adhesive standoffs are supplied to assist with mounting compatible equipment inside the enclosure.

Paxton and ACT controllers shown in product illustrations are for demonstration purposes and are not included with the PSU.

Compatibility, mounting positions, power requirements and cable clearances should be checked before installation.

Battery-Backup Support

The enclosure can accommodate either:

  • One 12V 18Ah battery for a 12V configuration
  • Two 12V 7Ah batteries for supported 24V configurations

The product has a maximum charging current of 0.7A and includes protection against over-charging and over-discharging. Batteries are not included.

Actual standby time depends on the installed battery capacity, battery condition, system voltage, connected equipment and total current consumption. No fixed backup duration should be advertised without completing a proper load and battery calculation.

Protective Metal Enclosure

The PSU is housed inside a metal enclosure measuring 505mm high × 445mm wide × 100mm deep. Front and rear tamper protection is provided to support monitoring of unauthorised enclosure opening or removal.

The unit also includes mains and fault indicators to assist installers with system commissioning and maintenance.

Electrical Protection

Built-in protection includes:

  • Over-current protection
  • Overload protection
  • Over-charge protection
  • Over-discharge protection

The PSU uses a 3A mains fuse, with an 8A output fuse supplied for 12V operation and a 4A fuse supplied for 24V operation. The battery-charging circuit uses a 0.5A resettable PTC device.

Is this a 12V or 24V power supply?

It is switchable and can be configured for either 12V or 24V DC operation. It supplies up to 8A in 12V mode or up to 4A in 24V mode.

How many outputs does the PSU provide?

It provides eight fused outputs through its fire-interface distribution board. Individual outputs can be configured for continuous or relay-controlled operation using the board jumpers.

How many Paxton controllers can it accommodate?

The enclosure is designed to house up to six compatible Paxton or ACT control boards. The controllers themselves are not included.

Are backup batteries included?

No. The enclosure supports one 18Ah battery or two 7Ah batteries, depending on the system configuration, but batteries must be purchased separately.

Can it be connected to a fire-alarm interface?

The fuse board supports N/C, N/O, positive and negative trigger methods. The connection and required output behaviour must be designed and commissioned by a qualified installer.

Does it include Paxton or ACT control boards?

No. The enclosure provides space and mounting hardwae for compatible boards, but the boards shown in example images are not supplied.

Can it provide 8A at 24V?

No. The maximum stated output is 8A at 12V or 4A at 24V. It should not be advertised as an 8A 24V power supply.
