Designed for Paxton Access-Control Installations

The enclosure includes mounting positions for up to two compatible Paxton controllers, including suitable Paxton Net2 installations.

Controller boards shown in manufacturer or distributor images are for illustration only. They are not supplied with the power supply. Installer checks are required to confirm the exact controller dimensions, mounting position, power consumption and cable-clearance requirements.

12V DC, 5A Power Module

The HAY-ACCESS12V5A-4W accepts a mains input of 100–240V AC at 50–60Hz.

Haydon specifies:

  • Mains-powered output voltage: 13.2–13.8V DC
  • Battery-powered output range: 10.0–13.2V DC
  • Maximum output current: 5A
  • Maximum battery charging current: 0.8A

Although commonly described as a 12V PSU, its mains-powered output is within the normal charging range required for a 12V standby-battery system. Connected equipment must tolerate the manufacturer’s stated output-voltage range.

The 5A rating must not be treated as five amps available to every output. It is the maximum rating of the power module, shared across the connected system and subject to correct load calculation.

Four Fused Outputs

The integrated distribution board provides four outputs, each protected by an F1.5A fuse.

The outputs can be configured through the fire-interface board so that connected devices respond appropriately when the interface relay is triggered. The total demand across all four outputs must remain within the PSU’s maximum output rating.

This model does not provide four separate 5A outputs.

Configurable Fire-Interface Relay

The interface supports the following trigger arrangements:

  • Normally open contact
  • Normally closed contact
  • Positive voltage trigger
  • Negative voltage trigger

Positive and negative trigger inputs accept a signal between 5V and 24V DC.

The fire interface can be used as one component within a correctly designed access-control release arrangement. This PSU is not a complete fire-alarm panel, and connection to a fire-alarm or life-safety system must be designed, installed and tested by appropriately qualified professionals.

Standby-Battery Support

The enclosure accommodates up to one 12V 7Ah standby battery. The battery is charged by the PSU at up to 0.8A and can continue supplying compatible connected equipment during a mains-power interruption.

A battery is not included.

The actual standby period depends on:

  • The current drawn by the controllers
  • Electric locks and other connected hardware
  • The condition and age of the battery
  • Whether locks are fail-safe or fail-secure
  • Cable losses
  • Environmental conditions
  • The system’s required operating sequence

tatus Indicators and Tamper Protection

Panel indicators provide information for:

  • Battery status
  • Mains status
  • Door-open status
  • Fault status

The metal enclosure also includes front and rear tamper protection to support detection of unauthorised opening or removal when correctly connected to a compatible monitoring input.

Tamper switches provide a monitoring signal only; they do not physically prevent the enclosure from being opened.

Electrical Protection

Haydon lists the following protective functions:

  • Over-current protection
  • Overload protection
  • Battery over-charge protection
  • Battery over-discharge protection

The manufacturer specifies an F3A mains fuse, F5A output fuse, F1A charger fuse and four F1.5A fused distribution outputs. Replacement fuses must match the manufacturer’s specified type and rating.

Is the HAY-ACCESS12V5A-4W a 5A power supply?

Yes. Haydon specifies a maximum output current of 5A. The current is shared across the connected system and is not available independently from every output.

Does “4W” mean that the PSU is rated at four watts?

No. In this product reference, it corresponds to the four-way output configuration. Haydon specifies a 12V DC 5A power module and four fused outputs.

How many outputs does it have?

The PSU includes four fused outputs. Each output is protected by an F1.5A fuse, while the total connected demand must remain within the power module’s overall rating.

How many Paxton controllers can it accommodate?

The enclosure has a mounting footprint for up to two compatible Paxton controllers. The controllers are not included.

Is the PSU suitable for ACT control boards?

Haydon’s documentation for this smaller model specifically identifies mounting positions for two Paxton controllers. Unlike the larger HAY-ACCESS12/24V8/4A-8W model, the datasheet does not explicitly state ACT board compatibility. ACT compatibility should therefore not be claimed without physically confirming the board dimensions and mounting requirements.

Is a backup battery included?

No. The enclosure can accommodate one 12V 7Ah battery, but the battery must be purchased separately.

Does the PSU provide exactly 12V?

It is designed for nominal 12V access-control systems, but Haydon specifies a mains-powered output range of 13.2–13.8V DC. Connected equipment must be suitable for this voltage range.

Can it be connected to a fire alarm?

The unit includes a configurable fire-interface relay supporting N/O, N/C, positive and negative triggering. Any connection forming part of a fire-release or life-safety arrangement must be designed and commissioned by qualified professionals.

Does it power two doors?

The enclosure can accommodate two Paxton controller boards, but the number of doors supported depends on the exact controllers, locks, readers and system design. It should not automatically be advertised as a complete two-door access-control system.
